5.1.1 Define species, habitat, population, community, ecosystem and ecology
Definitions
1. Species: generally regarded as a group which commonly and successfully breeds to give rise to fertile offspring e.g.
2. Population: the number of a species living in the same area at the same time and breeding together e.g. the Eleonora’s Falcon population of Tilos.
3. Community: a naturally occurring group of organisms/populations inhabiting a particular environment and interacting with each other (e.g. by feeding relationships), and relatively independent of other groups, e.g. a lake community.
4.Habitat: The environment in which a species normally lives or the location of a living organism
5. Ecosystem: a community of organisms and the abiotic environment.
