CLASS GROUP ACTIVITY- Prepare a working model of the digestive system
You have to create a working model of the digestive system. (a video of the same is shown alongside)
The twist- The model should be different from our digestive system. You may rearrange the organs, delete some add your own organs… be creative. THE PURPOSE IS TO CREATE A SYSTEM THAT WILL FULFIL THE NEED - "WHY DIGESTION IS ESSENTIAL" THE MARKS FOR THIS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR YOUR MONTHLY ASSESSMENT- JANUARY. |

THE RUBRICS FOR THE MODEL-
WHAT IS TO BE DONE...
Three groups have been created - group leader are- Jigar Parsana, Vincy Mehta, Heet Ghodasara
You will work in groups and submit a word document- (make sure that you do not copy paste directly from the net…we have ways to check)
Day 1- (Wednesday- 22nd Jan)
List the nutrients that we ingest. List at least three food items that you consume in your daily diet for each nutrient.
List the parts of the digestive system- alimentary canal and accessory glands (with a good diagram from the net….site the source)
Why food needs to be digested?
Day 2- (Thursday- 23rd Jan)
List the functions of the parts of the
1. digestive system- mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine.
2. digestive glands- salivary, gastric, pancreas, liver.
Which part of the alimentary canal do these glands contribute?
Are there any limitations in our digestive system? If so mention them.
Day 3 (Friday- 24th Jan)
What is the importance of the glands associated with the digestive system?
List the enzymes required for digesting the main food nutrients- Starch, protein and fat.
Find out a test that can be performed for testing each of these nutrients.
Day 4- (Monday- 27th Jan)
Analyse the test suggested and finalise the test to be performed.
Day 5 (Tuesday- 28th Jan) LAB
Perform the food tests
Day 6 (Wednesday- 29th Jan)
What happens to the digested food?
What is the role of intestines? How is the villi important?

Day 7 (Thursday- 30th Jan)
Overview of the topic.
You will have an assessment based on the topics above on Friday 31st Jan 2014. (15 mark objective questions)
